The message received vs intended message is not always the same.
You know that feeling when you leave an interview, and you start replaying the questions and your answers in your head?
Well, one of my clients recently experienced this, and it’s a situation I’ve seen happen quite a few times over the years.
My client was really enthusiastic about a project he was discussing during the interview, and he wanted to showcase his passion and focus.
However, he later worried that his enthusiasm might have been misinterpreted as aggressiveness.
It got me thinking about a valuable lesson I learned a long time ago: the message received is not always the message that is intended.
To avoid such misunderstandings, I often advise my clients to follow a simple mantra:
“I’m a professional.
I have no problems.
I create no problems,
I’m here to solve all of your problems.”
This helps keep the focus on your competence and ability to fit well with the team and the company culture.
If you want to dive deeper into this topic, I’ve created a video where I go into more detail about this topic.
