Proven technique for answering behavioral questions is available.
Do behavioral interview questions fill you with a sense of dread?
If so, you’re not alone.
As a certified professional career coach, I’ve seen this fear many times.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average tenure in a position is 4.1 years. Longer if you are over the age of 50.
Feeling anxious is perfectly normal, as most of us don’t interview very often.
However, there’s a simple and effective way to prepare for these types of questions, and that is through developing STAR stories or SOAR stories.
These stories focus on the situation, task (or obstacle), action, and result of a specific scenario from your professional experience.
This way, you will be able to give clear and concise answers that showcase your skills and achievements.
The key to developing these stories is to go through your resume bullet point by bullet point, and have a specific STAR or SOAR story behind each one.
The recruiter may only spend 6 seconds initially scanning your resume, but when they call for an interview, that is the time will go deeper into your accomplishments.
Having these stories ready will give you the edge.
