Ready to ace the second interview?
Congratulations. I understand how challenging it can be to get even the first interview, so getting a second is truly an achievement.
Today, I want to share some tips on how you can excel in your second interview and increase your chances of receiving that coveted job offer.
Nailed the First Interview – Now Ace the Second Interview
First, let’s acknowledge that second interviews can be more demanding than the first. While your resume validated your competence and the initial phone screen confirmed it, the first interview focused on your compatibility with the team and company.
Now, they want to dive deeper into your skills and what you bring to the table.
To prepare, review your SOAR (Situation, Obstacle, Action, Result) and STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) stories. These are crucial in showcasing your accomplishments.
Go through your resume and pinpoint each accomplishment statement. Can you narrate a story behind each one?
There’s a high chance you’ll be asked to elaborate on these points during the interview.
Additionally, research the company thoroughly.
Understand their mission, values, and recent news. If possible, learn about the hiring manager through LinkedIn.
This knowledge will impress interviewers and show your genuine interest in the position.
Expect questions that assess your judgment and problem-solving abilities. They might ask for examples of how you handled conflicts or made difficult decisions.
Reflect on past experiences and prepare to discuss them using the SOAR and STAR frameworks.
One common question is about salary expectations. Remember, don’t negotiate a salary for a job not yet offered.
Instead, express that you seek a fair and equitable salary based on your skills and experience.
Be prepared to discuss your previous employment without negativity. If asked why you left your last job, provide a concise, emotion-free explanation and highlight something positive you gained from that experience.
Good luck, and I hope these tips help you succeed!
