My Final Pivot at 65

At 65, I am now making my final pivot.

When I look back at my career path, it reads like a road trip across multiple industries – banking, government, technology, and now coaching.

Each turn taught me something valuable about adaptability and growth.

My journey began in the early 1980s as a bank teller, climbing the ladder to branch manager until the savings and loan crisis forced a change.

I pivoted to the FDIC, thinking government jobs were forever secure. Surprise – they weren’t!  The Savings and Loan Industry improved, and our Northern California office closed and I faced another crossroads.

That’s when technology caught my eye.

During my FDIC days, I discovered a natural affinity for computers.

With mentorship from industry professionals and seven months of formal training, I transformed myself into an IT professional.

Through strategic contract work and continuous upskilling, I eventually rose to Vice President of Information Services, a position I held for 18 years.

But my story doesn’t end there. While pursuing a master’s degree with dreams of teaching online college courses, I stumbled upon executive coaching. Something clicked.

I started a part-time career coaching business, working evenings and weekends while maintaining my tech career.

In 2015, I took the leap to full-time coaching – a decision that, despite initial fears and self-doubt, proved to be one of my best moves yet.

Now, after nearly a decade of helping mid-to-late career professionals navigate their own transitions, I’ve noticed something fascinating: many aren’t just seeking new jobs – they’re searching for meaning and purpose.

They’re ready to write entirely new chapters in their lives, just as I did multiple times.

Today, I’m embarking on my newest pivot: helping professionals embrace purposeful retirement and encore careers.

We’ll explore everything from social security navigation to maintaining health and finding fulfillment in this new phase of life.
