Is LinkedIn Sabotaging Your Job Search?
It is an important topic for those currently in career transition or will soon be looking for a new job.
And one I talk about in today’s video.
Are Your LinkedIn Settings Sabotaging Your Job Search
Recently, I facilitated a career readiness workshop at a local technical school.
During the workshop, I brought up several LinkedIn Profiles on an overhead projector. One student was only using her first name and last initial on her profile.
When I asked her about it, her response was something I have heard many times.
“Huh?”
She had no idea it was showing that way because when she looked at the profile on her computer, both first and last names appeared.
Several moments later I came across another profile where the picture was hidden from public view.
Like the woman, this individual had no idea either his photo was not showing.
This is where LinkedIn settings come in.
Many people may not be aware of the settings they have on their LinkedIn profiles.
And in this video, I will walk you through specific areas to check and make sure you are presenting yourself correctly.
Take the example of the profile picture.
Having a photo on your LinkedIn profile is essential if you are looking for a new job.
Studies have shown that profiles with photos are 27 times more likely to be viewed by recruiters than those without. Furthermore, individuals with photos are 34 times more likely to receive messages.
Don’t be like the woman in my workshop who had no idea that her last name was not visible, or the gentleman who thought his photo was visible but wasn’t.
Remember, a small oversight can have a significant impact on your job search.
