How to hold a recruiters focus?
Did you know recruiters typically spend only about six or seven seconds scanning a resume?
It’s true.
Research from the job board, The Ladders, and feedback from numerous recruiters themselves have confirmed this fact.
So, how do you make sure your resume stands out in that tiny window of opportunity?
First, keep it to no more than two pages.
While one page might not be enough to highlight your accomplishments, anything longer than two pages risks important details being overlooked.
White space is your friend, so maintain one-inch margins and stick to font sizes between 10 and 12.
Make your resume shine with accomplishment statements. Avoid turning it into a laundry list of job descriptions.
Use eye-popping metrics, percentages, dollar amounts, and symbols to showcase your achievements.
If this is something you struggle with, think about the impact you made in your previous roles. Ask yourself questions like:
- Did I surpass speed or accuracy standards?
- How many deadlines did I consistently meet?
- Did I suggest a solution that brought significant results?
Remember, it’s not just about stating your responsibilities but highlighting how you excelled in them.
