5 tips for finding a new job.
I know many of you are going to be looking for a new job this year. Maybe you’ve recently become unemployed, maybe you’re still employed, but you’ve set yourself a goal to find a new job in the next 12 months.
In today’s video, I talk about five things that you need to prepare for if you’re going out into the job market.
5 Job Search Tips for Finding A New Job
The Resume
If you are an older worker, this is extremely important.
Age discrimination exists.
It’s often a perception based upon the resume; they’ve not even met you yet.
To get past this, make sure that your resume is age proof.
Whereas a resume is reactive, LinkedIn is proactive.
More than 90% of recruiters will use LinkedIn when searching for candidates to fill positions.
A good LinkedIn profile can work for you 24 x 7.
Interviewing
Preparing for the Interview
You must prepare for the interview.
This is where so many candidates come up short.
Are you ready to answer, “Tell me a little bit about yourself” or “what happened at your last job?”
Job Search Strategy
You need a plan.
For example, are there companies you are considering?
If so, you need to start networking and forming relationships within those companies.
Positive Mindset
Being unemployed can be challenging and this is where a career coach can be helpful.
Not only will the coach help you with all the functional needs like ensuring your resume is Applicant Tracking System friendly or scheduling mock interviews, but they can also help with the voices in your head that may be holding you back.
